My house gets hot in summer.
The suburbs seem to get airless compared to the sea breeze I had when I lived by the beach. I have air con in the living room and kitchen as it’s all open plan but the bedrooms get hot. The kid’s rooms are the worst.
Summer evenings they can be like saunas, and my kids sweat up a storm in their sleep.
I’ve been using a $10 fan from Bunnings and a $50 fan from Kmart for the last few years to keep them cool and they seem to do the trick. Moving the warm air at a fast enough rate to make the room bearable for sleeping. I’ve just been lumping it, and sweating, in my room.
Not so this year.
Bing Lee emailed me and offered me the Dyson Hot + Cool to review for you guys and I gotta say this year I’ma gonna be cooled in style. The kids are not getting this little beauty cos it’s Mama’s turn for some cool sleep in summer with a styley new fan.
Not only is it a sexy machine, with its fancy blade free system, but its 10 speed adjustable airflow means I get wind in my hair. It tilts so I can aim it where I want it, it oscillates to spread the love, and it has a snazzy remote so I don’t even need to get off my backside to sort it out.
No blades makes it easy to clean, and easy on the eye, but all of these features are unimportant if it doesn’t do its job properly.
I figured the only true way to test a fan was to make a video and show you.
Aside from this show of me being an utter tool, I haven’t had much of a chance to really use it yet, so for me the biggest question is do I really need a $500 fan when I have my trusty $10 jobbie.
Enter my neighbour… she has had the Dyson Hot + Cool and she used it all last summer. She doesn’t have massive disposable income so it was no small purchase but her house has no aircon for summer and no insulation in winter so she has loved it sick all year round.
She says it heats her lounge beautifully in winter, but does not rack the bill like those oil heated and blowers. Reckons her electricity bill has thanked her for forking out the big bucks in the outset.
I’m pleased I asked her and got a more comprehensive answer than my simple wind machine test, and I look forward to really getting acquainted with my Dyson Hot + Cool.
