“My first kiss was when I was 14 years old and I was behind my friend’s garage, between two bins. His name was Heath and I didn’t know where to put my hands.”

Let me tell you something about this gorgeous creature. She has a blog called Milk Please Mum which I’d heard of but never looked at…. anyway, she approached me at the Voices of 2014 awards and said her one goal for the night was to meet me and say hi. She really likes my photos.

Portrait 365 specifically.

And we chatted about stuff and we giggled and Tahnee has been doing a year long project of her own. When I said I was struggling to finish as life had gotten in the way and I was behind, she looked me straight in my (slightly bleary) eyes and she said she hoped I caught up and I got it done.

Then I looked at her site. And she is a real photographer, like, not just a girl who has a camera….. and she is am-az-ing.

So I am finishing this on time, goddammit, and we are all going to thank this talented, wise and lovely creature for being the fire under my arse that I needed.

Because I realised am no longer just a girl with a camera.

(Actually I didn’t even have my camera on me. I shot Tahnee with my iPhone so I would remember the moment.)

“Do you know what Aunty Danielle will be wearing tomorrow? Do you think she’ll be wearing a skirt or a dress?”

I think I disappointed my gorgeous niece by wearing trousers. But I was very comfy and modest when were were rolling around on the grass.

“What advice would you give your 20 year old self?”

“Don’t think you’re so mature.”

“Yeah, I thought I knew everything too.”

“I think I should be taking your photograph.”

“Anytime, Noda.”

This is my big brother and his son, Otis. I didn’t realise how much I missed him and his lovely family until I was in their home. They are truly good people.

“I’m really proud of being such a giving person.”

“Do you find sometimes you give too much?”

“Yes, and I try to tell myself to pull back and keep some moments for myself.”

It was such a humid afternoon I was waiting for the rain.

“I’m 84 years old. My arms hurt, my back hurts, I take 15 pills in the morning for many different illnesses, my blood, my sugar. I’m am very sick now, but I am happy. I have two children, six grandchildren and now we are having great children. I am Macedonian and for me, my family makes me happy.”

I’m with Tahnee. Don’t you stop, Portrait 365 is one of the things I most look forward to each week. I love the pictures and reading the commentaries that go alongside them. Thanks for helping me stay upright on Saturday xx

Darling, it was so fab to be standing with you for your big moment. You deserve that win and your humility and graciousness was delicious.

Well done Tahnee. Of course you are going to finish. There would have been an uprising if you hadn’t. The thing about uprisings is that you never expect them. You thought we weren’t paying attention right? 😉
If fact, I’m damn tempted to copy your idea next year except I don’t see that many people.

I see people all the time but I don’t want to talk to most of them! I’ll do my damnedest to prevent an uprising. Far too much energy for y’all. I’m on it, Nicole.

I am so proud to be the fire under your arse!! I am soooo impressed you remembered all that after 500 champagnes..?! Thankyou for your kind, beautiful, ever so generous words! You really were the highlight of my night – and I chatted to lots of fabulously interesting people so that’s saying something! And yes – you are no longer just a girl with a camera. You WILL finish this on time! I’m watching.. 🙂
    BIG LOVE XX
