“I’ve spent the year in China studying fashion and I’m really proud that I learned Mandarin. It was a really hard language and I now speak conversationally. I was there for the last year of my luxury and fashion masters degree. Their design is different, with their own influences, but it was really interesting to learn.”

“I’m getting married in January and my inlaws are clucky and starting to put the pressure on us for kids. We’re trying to manage their expectations and tell them a few more years. We have a nice life together and we know kids will change that. I hear that it will change in a good way too, but it’s just different.”

These ladies are from my local fruit store. We chat, we sing and we laugh whenever I go in. If I buy too much to walk home with the pram, they chuck in their truck and drop it by on their way home, for nothing more than thanks.

It is locals like this that create the village that makes my life.

Hallie

“I’ve just spent the year doing what was right for me.”

Hallie has just had a year off her career as a doctor and travelled the world. I always feel old when doctors are younger than me. The fact that so many are is an indication that I am indeed getting on!

I asked him if he would please stand over by the window where the light was lovely and he struck this pose….plus a few more. This kid is a natural.

Christy

Christy

“I was 93 kilos and fat after having 3 kids, then I lost 25 kilos and became the ideal ‘Barbie’. One day I picked up some up dumb bells and I just didn’t stop. I’ve been training now for 15 years and I’ve always wanted to compete, but I haven’t done it yet. I keep getting injured and that holds me back.”

I’ve seen Christy around a few times while I was driving and I wanted to stop my car to speak with her. Whether or not you like body building you can not deny the discipline and dedication it takes. I hugged Christy after we chatted because she looks tough as nails but is really soft and lovely.

Tai Chi in the park…. I bombed her. With permission….. but I thought stopping to chat might ruin her flow.

Wren

Wren

Four days old. She smelled as divine as she looks.

Eileen

Eileen

“I’ve been fostering kids for about 7 years. I’ve looked after 6 kids. My recent two charges are brothers and I’ve only had them for two months. They’re beautiful boys. Sometimes when you foster there are behavioural issues you need to deal with but these two still trust the world. They have golden hearts and they just fit with my family.”

Those boys were shiny golden boys indeed, in fact, that’s why I approached Eileen- to tell her her sons were gorgeous, and polite…. and she told me her story.
